Drawn to the welcoming campus atmosphere and engaging course modules, Bahiya chose QMU after attending an Open Day. In this student story, she shares the highlights of her time at QMU, including the benefits of practical, hands-on projects, supportive lecturers, and a summer internship during her final year!
Why did you choose to study at QMU and what attracted you to the course?
I visited the campus on an Open day while in my last year of school as I was deciding where to apply. I really liked the campus; all the windows and open spaces made it feel very welcoming. I was particularly interested in the Business Management and Events Management courses but ultimately decided on Business Management as I preferred the modules I’d be taking on the course.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
I really enjoyed the modules I took and the teaching staff were great. It was very easy to speak to them about any queries we had to do with the coursework.
Were there any particular course activities you found especially interesting?
I enjoyed some of the projects we had to complete for some of the courses. My favourite was when we had to come up with out own business idea and actually make and sell the product we made.
How did your lecturers support your learning?
The lecturers were fantastic in providing support, you could always ask them about the modules and get additional support if you needed. They also took extra time at the end to help us get prepared for the exams.
What challenges did you face with the course and/or university life? How did you overcome them?
There was some occasions where we had all our assignments due on one day so balancing that was sometimes a challenge but in hindsight it prepared me quite well for work!
Do you have any advice for students who might be interested in this course?
I’d really recommend the course. It’s a great way to learn more about the business environment and learn more about the specific areas which will help you decide where your interests may be once you leave and start looking for jobs.
Did you win any awards/scholarship/internships that helped you develop skills and experience?
"In my final year, I applied for a summer internship advertised through the University and completed it over summer in conjunction with Santander. I was a sales and marketing intern for a medical association company based in West Lothian."
What’s your ‘top tip’ for making the most of being a student?
Start your coursework early, it will save you so much stress close to the due date and make use of the support and services provided by the University.
What was the most valuable lesson that you learned at university?
Ultimately university taught me a lot about myself. It comes challenges that really help you develop and make you readier to join the world of work.
Can you tell us about your life post-graduation (your career path, notable achievements, etc.)?
After graduation I continued with my studies and completed a master’s in communication and HR. I then took some time off before working in employability. At present, I work to support schools employability activities.
